Dean Karlan is president, founder, and executive director of Innovations for Poverty Action; and a professor of economics at Yale University.
Previously, Karlan was a consultant for the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and FINCA International. Karlan’s research interests include development economics, behavioral economics, and the political economy, with a focus on the financial behavior of the poor and the use of field experiments to learn which social policies work and why. Karlan earned his Ph.D. in social capital and microfinance from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
